The "Transcarpathian Edelweiss" national festival of the arts is an artistic and social event designed to promote contemporary art among the population of Ukraine, revealing new talented artists and authors. Any ensemble or individual artist - amateur or professional - can participate in the Festival, in genres such as singing, choreography, instrumental music, oratory art and circus.
The International Festival "Interpuppet" is held early in October every other year. It brings together creative teams of puppet theaters from different countries. During the festival children of different nationalities living in the area acquire a deeper understanding of their native theatrical art and the art of other neighboring countries, and by this expand their worldview.
The festival has become a tradition in our region. It demonstrates the best examples of children's art. The goal is to revive cultural and moral values of the family unit; identify and support talented children; and to develop creative skills and abilities in different genres of art.
In 2016 Uzhhorod revived its wine festival and presented the best samples of young Transcarpathian wine from that year’s harvest from renowned winemakers of the region. Crowds can expect fire performances from theatres from across Ukraine and beyond; Fire battles, gymnasts, acrobats and jugglers, as well as performances of music groups and lots of parties.
The festival is hosted by "Lautari”, the regional association of Roma music culture. For the first time the festival was held in 1997 as a national jazz festival, and then in 1998, the festival gained international status. The Jazz Forum "Pop-Jazz-Fest" has been held in Uzhhorod for 19 years.
The "Sun Drink" festival of wine and honey is a traditional spring festival for Transcarpathia, which for over ten years has attracted the best winemakers and beekeepers. During the Christmas Fair, it is possible to buy souvenirs and products from local craftsmen. Wooden houses are set up in the centre of the town and decorated in Christmas style. Near these stalls one can see bundles of straw: a symbol of the manger where Christ was born. All of this creates a magical holiday atmosphere.
