Uzhgorod University’s Botanic Garden is one of the best gardens in Ukraine and was created on the territory of two fruit-nut orchards in 1948. Its total area is 4.5 hectares. Here, more than three thousand species of plants grow, including not only local Transcarpathian, but hundreds of different species of tropical and subtropical varieties. It has more than 1,200 species of ornamental flowers and trees. Also, the legendary Edelweiss is cultivated here, which was popular among Transcarpathians and later became the symbol of the region.
