Transport bridge is the biggest bridge in Uzhgorod (length is 140m). The need for such transport interchange arose in the thirtieth of the twentieth century in times of Czech government. Its construction began in 1934. The estimate was 8.0 million korunas. In 1937 the bridge was opened in the presence of the second Czechoslovak President E. Benes (1935-1948). 7 consecutive years Great Bridge connected the left bank of the city with the Right Bank. In October of 1944, fascist troops blasted it during the retreat. Reconstruction of the bridge occurred with the arrival of Soviet troops to the city. Technical documentation was urgently brought from Prague and with the same urgency the bridge was restored using military engineers under the direction of Uzhgorod engineer Schlesinger. On 27 September, 2012 Uzhgorod City Council decided to name the transport bridge after the first president of the Czechoslovak Republic – Tomas Masaryk.
