Botanical garden was founded on 28 November 1948 on a place where two nut and fruit gardens existed. There were 96 nuts and also apple, pear, cherry, plum, elderberry, rosehips, blackberries and willow. Botanical Garden is located on three terraces with difference in height of 22 meters. One third of area of the garden is located on the first and second terraces above the river, and the rest of the territory descends to the floodplain of the valley. The soil consists of volcanic source rocks, covered with a layer of cultivated soils. A botanical garden contains 3900 species and varieties of open ground plants and 1100 of greenhouse. In arboreta grows about 800 species of trees and shrubs. There are 130 species and varieties of conifers in the garden, including metasekvoyya and cypress swamp. Flora of Transcarpathia represented by 400 plant species, including endemics such as lilac Hungarian and Carpathian cornflower. The mountain flora represented on the alpine hill which comprises 150 species of plants including edelweiss. Decorative floriculture in a botanical garden presents 1,200 species including 120 species of roses, 50 types of gladioli, chrysanthemums 25 species, 20 species of lilies. Tropical and subtropical plants grow in the greenhouse of botanical garden: banana, mimosa, laurel, eucalyptus, papaya, 10 species of trees, 250 species of cacti.
